Russian letters & Typography

In the first few posts, I look back on my impression of 2years ago when I first came.
As  I wrote in introduction, Moscow was much westernized than I thought.
However, Russian letters were exotic enough to lure me out.
In the city, I found it very difficult to get anywhere without understanding the language.
Streets were covered with hundreds of advertisements and signs written in only Russian. Dazzling!
I didn't understand most of them, so they just looked like samples of  typography.

モスクワに来た2年前にさかのぼって、印象深かったことを書こうと思います。
イントロダクションでお話ししたように、街は思ったよりも西洋化が進んでいました。
日本でもお馴染のカフェやブランドもたくさん見かけましたが、ロシア文字（キリル文字）で
書かれているだけでとってもエキゾチック！街歩きせずにいられなくなりました。
通りに広告規制などないのでしょう、所せましと広告・看板が雑然と立ち並ぶさまに目がくらむ。
意味がわからないからこそ、なんだか面白い！キリル文字タイポグラフィの見本のように思えました。

1. Well known logo design　
These logos are seen on any main streets.  I also put world famous logos in Russian version below. Can you find them?
よく目にする商標デザイン。世界中でお馴染のロゴ、キリル文字バージョンもあります。わかりますか？

 

2. Public signs
さまざまな標識。絵も文字もすごくシンプル。

3.Other signs
You can see wide range of font types. Some of them seem to be a kind of Avant-garde.
街歩きしてちょっと目にとまったデザイン。アバンギャルド風なものが目立ちます。



On the streets many of buildings are uniformed in Soviet style.  Only signs are too much colorful.
This townscape isn't  sophisticated as Europa, but I like this MISMATCH.
ストリート沿いはソ連時代に造られた、画一的で色みの少ない建物が多い中、看板だけがやけにカラフル。
街並みはヨーロッパのそれのように洗練されていませんが、建物と看板のミスマッチな感じが
混沌とした雰囲気を醸し出し、なんともモスクワっぽいなあと感じるのです。
