Russian New year show

A happy new year to every one. I hope you had a wonderful holiday. It is belated New year greetings, but here in Moscow holiday mood remains  longer than other countries since Russia has two calenders. Officially it follows the world standard Gregolian calender and religiouly follows the Julian which is 13days behind the Gregolian. For example, 7January is Christmas day and 14January is a new year day in Russian orthodox. Usually people take a holiday from the end of December to 10January.
During  a long holiday period, most of theaters in Moscow are running every days and nights. At the beginning of December, on-line ticket shops opens the special website for advatising New year shows for kids called "Новогодние елки(New year Trees)" and countless banner ads appear.

As a mother of two young children, I appreciate that a Russian theatre is very friendly for all ages.  Children don't need to keep silent by their parents, a theatre is the place where children can dream and encourage their innocent imagination. Especially around a new year holiday, theatres have the happiest mood with full of kids smiles. Last 3years our family also spent a wonderful year-end at the teatre. Today let me introduce my favourite shows to tell you about Russian Theatre.

Firstly, let's see one kids show, "Tyopa and his friends" which we saw 2years in a row. We became fans of this funny dolls since the first sight. This show is only held at the medium sized theatre out of citycentre, however the tickets are quickly gone every year. Once you see it, you could find the reason, even little babies can get excited to see the performance.
The show "Tyopa and his friends"

How to enjoy the new year show? Well, get in the theatre one hour before starting the show. At the entrance hall, the guest performers play games to warm up children, after then he suggest them to call "Ded Maroz" (Santa Clause)( in Russia, Santa Clause is the character of Chirstmas and a new year).  Reacting to childrens voice, Ded Maroz appears, sing and play the game with them. When children get heated enough, it is the show time.

The funtime already starts before statting the show.

My favourite KAWAII character, Tyopa is the creature from a fairy tale. The stage is very colorful, and the performance consists of many songs, dances and animations,  it never bores children.  Music and visual designs are based on Russian folklore, that is the best point I like.

The show is vivid, never bores children

Even after the show, the funtime will continue. All children can exchange the ticket for the special souvenior. Normally the ticket price is a bit expensive since it includes the money for the gift. Tyopa's gift is fantastic, in a colorful bag we got the original stationery set, the fancy sweets bag and theTyopa soft toy.

New year showの最後のお楽しみは、「подарок  (お土産)」。
New year show ticket includes the original gift

Now we see another new year show which is held in Kremlin. Unusually lots of young children and their parents walk around Kremlin at the end of year. They are the guests for the show of the state Kremlin palace. One hour before starting, the palace was already very hot with hundreds of children. It is said that the government top official families are invited, so some of children dressed up formally. Also Ded Maroz(Santa Clause) has a perfect looking like a representative of all santa clauses in Russia.

子ども向けNew year showをもう一つ。

In my impression, this Ded Maloz is the best in Moscow

This year, Kremlin palace hold the musical named "The wizard of colors".  The huge stage set decorated in multi colors, it might be one feature of Russian show. Vivid colors are coming into our eyes and refreshing them up, because we always see a  monochrome landscape in winter.

The new year show 2014

The new year show is not only for children, let's see good ones for adults. Russia, the great country of ballet, it goes without saying that "Nutcracker" is a must-see show. As you know, the story is one girl's dream on Christmas day. It is also a dream of every woman who wants to meet a handsome prince and spend a romantic time together.  In Moscow several theatres hold the ballet "Nutcracker" , they basically follows a classic dance composition, but in a different stage design. Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Musical Theatre produces the stage with a unique idea. The stage set and costumes are symbolized in simple modern shapes without typical fancy decorations.

The exclusive theatre Bolshoi produces amazing show "Nutcracker", I couldn't even believe that real human beings were dancing in front of me. Their movement was just perfect, presicely like mechanical dolls. "The waltz of flowers" was the most impressive performance. I have never seen like that before, it was like everything in the morning mist, fairy tale like and even mysterious.

Thus our family ended the year 2014 in the afterglow of fantastic shows. Russian winter life is tough,  people spend time to dream about a beautiful world and make it on the stage. I highly respect their mind and creativity.

Moscow Music Theatre in royal blue

The pleasure of long-term stay in Moscow is theatre visits such as ballet. Of course, Bolshoi theatre is the best option, but if I often go there, soon becoming bankrupt. (The avarage price of Bolshoi ticket is over 200$) Then, I choose another one, "Stanislavsky and  Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre".  It's such a long name that Japanese call it just "Danchenko theatre", which is famous as high level performances as well as Bolshoi.  I like this theatre itself very much, because I 've got good impression of everything about it. I think this theatre is quite successful to develop its brand image. The image is like  "beautiful hermony of classic and modern", "Sophisticated" and "Elegant".  I get this kind of impression by the building, interior, website and printed things like programs. They are well designed with the same concept.

「Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Music Theatre」。
The program and the ticket of Moscow music theatre

The building is not so fancy. It is a rebuilt house of Count Pyotr Saltykov's estate, the parts of it survived the fire of 1812. Since 1926 the building belonged to two studios – Stanislavski Opera Studio and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre. Two companies worked independently of each other and appeared on stage in turn. In 1938-39 the theatre building was considerably rebuilt to its current shape. The Stalin style facade hides original structures of Saltykov's  In 1941 both companies were merged, that's why this theatre has a long name.

The interior is excellent.
Key color is Blue, I say "Royal blue" slightly similar to purple.
The most of space is colored in this blue, making guests feel noble.

I also find some place colored in "Red".
This is a dramatic surprise and impressive change for the whole space design.

Interior in red

We'll never get bored before opening the perfomance, because around the main hall is the space for exhibision. We can see professional photographies of ballet or opera, models of the stage , beautiful costumes and so on. The way or presentasion is sophisticated like modern arts. Especially, I like the lightnings which simply bright up exhibit goods.

This is the main hall, featuring "Royal blue" as well. Compared to the Red of Bolshoi theatre, I feel calm and relaxed.

This time, I saw the ballet, "Don Quiexote".  A happy story with unique characters, colorful costumes and cheerful music.  I like it very much. In the end, all audiences were so excited and said "BLAVO!" and dancers smiled back to every one by the Royal blue carten.

Dreamy night at Bolshoi theatre

This over weekend was so exciting, because I finally got to see the ballet at Bolshoi theatre.
It is no doubt that Bolshoi theatre is the heart of Russian art&culture and always have some topics to talk about.  It was reopend in 2011 after six-year- renovation and recently gave us the shocking news that the art director had acid attacked by someone.

In 1825, Bolshoi theatre was built at the present location. It was massively damaged by fire in 1853 and only walls and pillars were left.  Afterwords, reconstruction started and completed in 1856.  This architecture style is called "Russian Clasicism",  which is based on Ancient Greece and Roman style and developed in Russian way in the late18C-the early19C. Compared to European Baroque architecture, it looks even simple with minimum decorations. The symbol of the theatre, Apollo Quadriga is on the middle roof and welcoming us impressively. The top of the facade is carved in the double head eagle, which is the symbol of Russia.

Now I get in ....very bright. I expected that interior should be heavy, but actually it is light.
The lobby is designed in white color base with an accent color, red, which is used for the carpet or parts of chandeliers.
The lobby of Bolshoi theatre

It is very recommendable to see the lounge beside the lobby. Its color combination is arranged in the oppposite way to the lobby. The base color is red of the wall and accents in white.

The lounge hall besides the lobby

And finally, I get in the main hall....So gorgeous!!  Duzzeled by enormas gold and red.
After the light interior of the lobby, it comes with breath-taking impact.  Six levels balconies are awesome, decorated with gold, gold, gold! Also the huge chandelier is suspended from the ceiling.  This is exactly the kingdom of the dream.
The main hall of Bolshoi theatre

By the way, "Bolshoi" means "Big" in Russian.
To tell the truth, when I first saw this theatre, it looked much smaller than I thought. In fact it has only 1700 seats, very compact.  However, if you see the ballet here, you would find out that this is the best size. Even from the backside, we can see beautiful dancer's movement. Also this is the size that all the people in the theatre can share the emotion. Audience get moved and say, "BLABO!" and in return,  the dancers come to greet us many times. This cozy and friendly mood is another attractive point, even though Boshoi is the world top theatre.
