Hello everyone. Spring seems to arrive, we have a coulple of sunny days a week. I experienced the fourth winter and now I really get to know the feeling of Russian people. They've been always waiting for this new season. In February they already have a spring festival ,called Maaslenitsa even on the snowy ground , and in March Russia has another spring welcome event "International women's day" on 8 March.
みなさん、こんにちは。モスクワにも太陽の降り注ぐ明るい季節がやってきました。長く凍てついた冬を過ごすロシア人が、どんなにこの瞬間を待ち望んでいたことか・・・ロシアでの越冬4年目、私も身をもって体感したように思います。2月後半、まだ凍った大地の上でもマースレニッツァを祝い、本当の春を待っていました。そして3月に入り、春気分を加速してくれるようなイベントがありました。3月8日、「国際婦人デー」です。



Around that day, posters designed for "8 Mapta (8 March)" are seen everywhere in the town.  International women's day - it was originally proposed by the German socialist to promote women's rights and gradually spreaded out around the world, and it even caused a Russian historical incident.  On 8 March( in Julius calender) in 1919,  February Revotution started from the female worker's strikes for better food, it became huge demonstrations and finally led to the end of Russian empire. Today, 8March is the national holiday without any political meanings, simply honouring all womens with flowers and small gifts. Before the day, I saw many women held flower bouquets and presents which brightned up the dim subway station.

この頃になると、街のいたるところに「８　Mapta（3月8日）」と書かれた華やかなポスターが見られます。国際婦人デーは1910年、ドイツ人社会主義者によって女性の権利と世界平和をめざす「国際婦人デー」が提唱され、世界的に広がりました。ロシアでは1919年の旧暦3月8日に、女性労働者のデモがきっかけで2月革命が起こり、帝政崩壊にもつながりました。その後3月8日は祝日となり、本来の政治的意味合いから転じて、女性を敬い労わる日となったそうです。慣習として女性には花束やお菓子などが贈られます。婦人デー直前の地下鉄では、花束やプレゼントを抱えた女性たちが、薄暗い構内を明るくしてくれます。

There is no need to say that this event brings the most money to the flower market.  Even temporary flower vendors appears around the subway stations. I visited the most famous flower market located in Kievskaya.  You might imagine that the market looks like the one in Europa....well, frankly speaking it is not that beautiful. The street was packed with pedlers who wore black jackets. They are supposed to be from somewhere in central asia, and the atmosphere made me nervous.

このイベント、言うまでもなくロシア花市場最大の稼ぎ時！地下鉄周辺にも花売りおばさん達が出現します。私はモスクワ市内で古くから花市場として栄えるキエフスカヤを訪れてみました。花市場、英訳すればもちろんFlower Market・・・その響きから想像するような一面のお花畑やこじゃれた街並みは・・・そこにはありません。南方から出てきたような黒づくめの商人たちがひしめく、スリリングな界隈。花束も路上に無造作に並べられています。

Let's take a look at the market. The most popular flower for International women's day is mimosa, which is the symbol of this event. Then I saw wide variety of tulips. These flowers are usually imported from Holland, China or even from Ecuador, so that the price is not so cheap, for example a small bunch of mimosa costs 5 USdollars.

市場の中を見てみましょう。婦人デーに人気のお花は、その象徴であるミモザ。春らしくチューリップも多様な種類が揃っていました。これらの多くはオランダ、中国、エクアドルなどから輸入品であるため、市場といえども気軽に変えない値段だったりします。（ミモザ２～３本、約500円）

Let's see the design of flower bouquet and arrangement.  So many large-scale arrangements are displayed on the floor(about 1500USD), their composition is simple, consisted of limited kinds of flowers. Some designs look too much garlish like a big heart shape with red roses. Another interesting thing is the huge toybears hanging from the ceiling.  I wonder if the men gives flowers to the ladies with this big toy??
ブーケやアレンジメントのデザインはどうでしょうか？所せましと置かれている、大型アレンジメント。（一つ　約1万5千円）花の種類が限られているため、構成はいたってシンプル。赤白のバラで形作られたハート型アレンジメントなど、日本人ならちょっと赤面してしまいそうです。また花屋でよく見かけるのは、吊り下げられた巨大なぬいぐるみ。花と一緒にプレゼントするのでしょうか？これも頂いたらちょっとリアクションに困るような代物ですね。

Honestly I can't say good enough things about flower arrangings, but I found that the greeting cards more interesting.  In Russia, Women's day has been the important event and left excellent graphic design for "8 Mapta", which are often traded at the flea market today. I am fascinated by old post cards with delicate drawings in pale colors.  Still now kiosk sells a kind of retro-designed cards which remain Soviet nostalgy.
花のアレンジメントは洗練されていると言い難いのですが、脇役のメッセージカード類に、きらりと光るロシアンデザインを発見しました。婦人デーはソ連時代から大切なイベントだったために、蚤の市で「８Mapta」用のポストカードがよく出回っています。淡い色調、繊細なタッチで描かれたポストカードは、現代でも色あせることない名作ぞろいだと思います。ちなみに現代でもキオスクでは、ソ連の雰囲気を残したレトロなミニカードが販売されています。

Personally I am very happy to have International women's day, because all women are equally celebrated no matter what they do.  On 8 March, whoever I met said  "С праздником  8 марта! (Congratulations on 8 March)" with lovely smiles. I wish we could have women's day in Japan, too.
それにしても「娘」や「母」や「祖母」といったカテゴライズなしに、女性であればだれでもお祝いしてもらえる日は気分がいい。この日だけはタクシー運転手、店員さん、みんなが笑顔で「С праздником  8 марта!　3月8日おめでとう」と声をかけてくれます。日本にもそんな日があればいいのになぁ。

 

Russian New year show

A happy new year to every one. I hope you had a wonderful holiday. It is belated New year greetings, but here in Moscow holiday mood remains  longer than other countries since Russia has two calenders. Officially it follows the world standard Gregolian calender and religiouly follows the Julian which is 13days behind the Gregolian. For example, 7January is Christmas day and 14January is a new year day in Russian orthodox. Usually people take a holiday from the end of December to 10January.
During  a long holiday period, most of theaters in Moscow are running every days and nights. At the beginning of December, on-line ticket shops opens the special website for advatising New year shows for kids called "Новогодние елки（New year Trees)" and countless banner ads appear.

遅ればせながら、新年明けましておめでとうございます。楽しい休暇をお過ごしでしたでしょうか？ずいぶん遅いご挨拶になってしまいましたが、ここロシアでは1月半ばを過ぎても、なんとなくお正月気分が抜けません。それは1月7日がロシア正教におけるクリスマス、そして10日頃までは休日、さらに14日が旧正月・・・と、世界標準のグレゴリオ暦に従いながらも、宗教上で旧ユリウス暦が混在しているからでしょうか。
12月20日ごろから始まるこの長い長いholidayモード、ショービジネスが盛んなモスクワでは劇場の書き入れ時です。12月上旬より、劇場チケット販売サイトには「Новогодние елки（New year Trees)」と書かれた特設コーナーが現れ、このような宣伝が所狭しと並ぶのです。これらのショウは子ども向けで、その数ざっと見ても30箇所以上。

As a mother of two young children, I appreciate that a Russian theatre is very friendly for all ages.  Children don't need to keep silent by their parents, a theatre is the place where children can dream and encourage their innocent imagination. Especially around a new year holiday, theatres have the happiest mood with full of kids smiles. Last 3years our family also spent a wonderful year-end at the teatre. Today let me introduce my favourite shows to tell you about Russian Theatre.
ロシアに住む幸せは、劇場がすぐ身近にある感覚、とことんファンタジーの世界が味わえること。子どもが大人に合わせ、きちんとしないといけない場所ではなく、無邪気なままで夢いっぱい見られる場所。年末年始はとりわけ、モスクワ中の劇場が子ども達の笑顔であふれるのです。我が家もここ3年ほど、年末を劇場めぐりしながら過ごしています。その中でもお気に入りのショーを紹介しながら、ロシアの劇場文化をお伝えしましょう。


Firstly, let's see one kids show, "Tyopa and his friends" which we saw 2years in a row. We became fans of this funny dolls since the first sight. This show is only held at the medium sized theatre out of citycentre, however the tickets are quickly gone every year. Once you see it, you could find the reason, even little babies can get excited to see the performance.
まず2年連続観たこちら、「Tyopa and his friends（チョーパと仲間達）」。昨年ぐうぜん見つけたこの着ぐるみショー、
まずキャラクターのゆるさにノックアウトされました！モスクワ中心でもない小さな劇場にも関わらず、チケットは即完売。観れば理由はわかります。0歳から釘付けになれるんです！

How to enjoy the new year show? Well, get in the theatre one hour before starting the show. At the entrance hall, the guest performers play games to warm up children, after then he suggest them to call "Ded Maroz" (Santa Clause)( in Russia, Santa Clause is the character of Chirstmas and a new year).  Reacting to childrens voice, Ded Maroz appears, sing and play the game with them. When children get heated enough, it is the show time.

New year show 鑑賞のポイントとして、まず開演前から楽しむこと。約1時間前から、ホール内ではにぎやかに大道芸やゲームが始まり、子ども達が自由に参加できるのです。その後、子ども達の呼び声にこたえ、年末の主役ジェット・マローズ（サンタクロース）が登場し、会場内のボルテージは最高潮に達します。もうすっかり子ども達のテンションが上がったところで座席に移動。本ステージの始まりです。

My favourite KAWAII character, Tyopa is the creature from a fairy tale. The stage is very colorful,and the performance consists of many songs, dances and animations,  it never bores children.  Music and visual designs are based on Russian folklore, that is the best point I like.
 （きも可愛い）おじさんのような妖精チョーパと仲間たちが繰り広げるアドベンチャー。色彩豊かなステージは歌とダンス中心、ノリノリの人形たちがなんとも愛らしい。時折アニメーションを加えながらのストーリー展開が子ども達を飽きさせず、約1時間という時間設定が幼児にぴったり。曲調はロシア民謡をベースにしており、登場人物の衣装や背景も、どことなくロシア民話っぽいところが私のつぼです。

Even after the show, the funtime will continue. All children can exchange the ticket for the special souvenior. Normally the ticket price is a bit expensive since it includes the money for the gift. Tyopa's gift is fantastic, in a colorful bag we got the original stationery set, the fancy sweets bag and theTyopa soft toy.

New year showの最後のお楽しみは、「подарок  (お土産）」。New year showのチケットはもともと少し高めに設定されており、子どもたちへのギフト代が含まれています。チョーパshowのお土産は毎年とっても豪華です。オリジナルの文具セット、お菓子袋にぬいぐるみまで！ゆる過ぎて、たまりません。

Now we see another new year show which is held in Kremlin. Unusually lots of young children and their parents walk around Kremlin at the end of year. They are the guests for the show of the state Kremlin palace. One hour before starting, the palace was already very hot with hundreds of children. It is said that the government top official families are invited, so some of children dressed up formally. Also Ded Maroz(Santa Clause) has a perfect looking like a representative of all santa clauses in Russia.

子ども向けNew year showをもう一つ。政治経済の中心クレムリンが、年末は親子のほほ笑ましい姿で溢れます。いかにもソビエト的建築、クレムリン大会宮殿で年末恒例子どもshowが行われるのです。こちらも開演1時間前から、すごい熱気。お役人関係のご子息も多数招待されるこのイベント、ドレスアップした子ども達が目立ちます。ここのジェット・マローズ（サンタクロース）の風格も、まさに国を代表しているかのようです。

This year, Kremlin palace hold the musical named "The wizard of colors".  The huge stage set decorated in multi colors, it might be one feature of Russian show. Vivid colors are coming into our eyes and refreshing them up, because we always see a  monochrome landscape in winter.
今年は「色の魔法使い」というタイトルの、ミュージカルでした。色彩の洪水のごとく、圧倒的な華やかさは、ロシアの舞台の特徴でしょうか？モノクロームな冬の街並みばかり見ている目に、元気を与えてくれる色のビタミン剤のようです。

The new year show is not only for children, let's see good ones for adults. Russia, the great country of ballet, it goes without saying that "Nutcracker" is a must-see show. As you know, the story is one girl's dream on Christmas day. It is also a dream of every woman who wants to meet a handsome prince and spend a romantic time together.  In Moscow several theatres hold the ballet "Nutcracker" , they basically follows a classic dance composition, but in a different stage design. Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Musical Theatre produces the stage with a unique idea. The stage set and costumes are symbolized in simple modern shapes without typical fancy decorations.
さて私たち大人だって、休日にひとときの夢を見たいもの。バレエ大国ロシアの年末といえば、やはり「くるみ割り人形」でしょう。クリスマスの夜に少女マーシャが見た夢、くるみ割り人形が変身したハンサムな王子に誘われ、お菓子の国の宮殿へ。これほどに女性の夢のすべてがつめこまれたストーリーがあるでしょうか！？各劇場とも伝統を守りながら、独自の趣向を凝らした演出で楽しませてくれます。モスクワでボリショイ劇場に次ぎ人気のダンチェンコ劇場では、装飾を抑えたステージセット。スタイリッシュでモダンな衣装が斬新でした。

The exclusive theatre Bolshoi produces amazing show "Nutcracker", I couldn't even believe that real human beings were dancing in front of me. Their movement was just perfect, presicely like mechanical dolls. "The waltz of flowers" was the most impressive performance. I have never seen like that before, it was like everything in the morning mist, fairy tale like and even mysterious.
最高峰ボリショイ劇場の「くるみ割り人形」の美しさは、本当に生身の人間が踊っているのかと目を疑いたくなります。ダンサーすべての動きに乱れがなく、精密で、人間を超越したような、からくり人形を見ているような錯覚におちいるのです。中でも「花のワルツ」の幻想的、幽玄な世界観に、すっかり魅了されてしまいました。

Thus our family ended the year 2014 in the afterglow of fantastic shows. Russian winter life is tough,  people spend time to dream about a beautiful world and make it on the stage. I highly respect their mind and creativity.

こうして我が家の2014年は、劇場のすばらしい余韻に浸りながら暮れていきました。寒さの厳しい国だからこそ、心に描く夢の世界は途方もなく美しく、それを舞台に表現できる創造力にただただ敬服の念を抱きます。

Winter illuminations in Moscow vol.2

I hope all of you had a great Christmas day! With my best wishes, I send you thousands of lights from Moscow. This time, let's start from the Bolshoi theatre squre where the temporary market and stage are set up. Personally I like this Chiristmas decorations best in the city.  The design concept is "Angel city", looks like stained glass art which reminds me of the Mackintosh design, stylish and ellegant. In my impression, market stalls are also a bit more sophisticated than the other locations.
つぎにボリショイ劇場前へ。美しいデコレーションやマーケット、特設ステージが用意されおり、個人的には最も気に入った空間デザイン。コンセプトは「天使の街」。ステンドグラスのような、Mackintoshデザインのような、スタイリッシュで優美な装飾です。ボリショイ劇場前のマーケットは他会場より、いくぶん洗練された雰囲気に見えました。

Now we see TUM department store just next to the Bolshoi theater. The window and in store decorations are absolutely luxurious! The window displays are designed by Baccarat for the celeblation of 250th anniversary, it is not only beautiful, but also SWEET.  If you get closer, you will notice a sweet scent like a caramel which comes from the artificial trees around the window. I was tempted by those scents like a butterfly or bee.
ボリショイ劇場横には、グムと並ぶ大手百貨店「ツム百貨店」があります。ウィンドウも店内ディスプレイも、これぞとばかりのゴージャスさ。ウィンドウディスプレイは、250周年を迎える「バカラ」グラスによるもので、特筆すべきは・・近寄るとあま～いんです。ウィンドウ周りの木に特殊な加工がされており、キャラメルのような甘美な匂いが私たちを誘います。蝶や蜂の気持ちがわかるわ～。

Let's move to the high street, Bolshoya Domitrovka. Wow, enourmously bright!! And something futuristic!　This street turns a pedestrian zone on weekend, so no worry to walk looking up.
続いて高級ストリート、Bolshoya Domitrovkaストリートへ。これまた極端に明るい、そして何か近未来的！土日は歩行者天国だから安心して上を向いて歩けます。

The northwest end of the city center is Pushikinskaya Squre where the Russian famous writer Pushikin statue stands. As same as the last year, a lot of market stalls and beautiful lightings warmly welcome visitors. This year, I found something new, the fairy tale like house. At first I thought it was just a part of decorations, then I walked to the backside and noticed that this house is the show stage with an ice rink. According to the official website, every night at 17:00 and 19,:00, it shows "Nutcracker on Ice" for free.  What a wonderful event! Amazing city, Moscow!
中心街、西北端にはプーシキン像が立つPushikinskaya広場があります。昨年同様、数多くの露店としずくのように振り注ぐライティングが素敵です。ここで新しく登場したのはこの可愛らしいお家。一見、単なるディスプレイかと思いましたが、裏へ回るとなんとスケート併設の小ステージが用意されていました。イベントＨＰによると毎晩17時と19時から「くるみ割り人形」のアイスダンスショーが開催されています。完成度の高い演技でした。さすが芸術の国ロシア、すばらしく太っ腹な企画！

Some extra pictures for you, which were taken nearby the triumphal arch in the westside of Moscow. This princess is called "Snegurochika(Snow maiden)", she normally appears with a Russian Santa clause as his granddaughter.
番外編として市西部、凱旋門のライトアップ。ロシアのクリスマスでは欠かせないキャラクター、「スネグーラチカ（雪娘）」が氷の鳥？に囲まれ神々しい姿を見せていました。

I hope that you enjoyed my photo illumination tour in Moscow.   I think Russian Chirstmas decoration is very vivid,  colorful and lots of design variations compared to classic European decorations. Russian people like enhansing festive atmosphere and they love to join parties so much.  Russian orthodox Christmas day is 7th of January, and it is more religious event among believers. Generally, the biggest event happens on new year eve, a Russian Santa clause also comes on that night.  Santa clause and New year are coming to the town soon, let's get out to have a great fun!
モスクワのイルミネーション・ツアー、いかがだったでしょうか？暖色電球中心のヨーロッパのクリスマスとも一味ちがうでしょう。色とデザインバリエーションの豊富さ、斬新さ、めいいっぱいのパーティー感。ロシア人はお祭り好きなんですね。ロシア正教の本当のクリスマスは1月7日ですが、敬虔な信者による厳かな行事の意味合いが強いそうです。一般的な大イベントは大晦日から元旦にかけてのパーティー、サンタクロースがやってくるのも31日の夜なのです。サンタも正月もいっぺんにもうすぐやって来る！街へ繰り出せばかならず楽しいことが待っています！！

Recently I wrote about the small historical cities in Russia, but today I am going to be back in Moscow. It's on Christmas time, normally everybody gets excited in this festive mood, but this year end is not as usual. These days people always talk about the Ruble shock. Actually when I come out, I cannot walk through without checking the exchange rate. I could say that I see the electronic exchange rate board more than Chrismas lights. Just to get happy mood, today I will take you to the Christmas illumination tour in Moscow.
ここしばらくブログでは、ロシアの地方都市を巡っていましたが、久しぶりにモスクワに話を戻しましょう！心弾むクリスマスシーズンだというのに、最近はルーブル・ショックの話が挨拶がわりになってしまいました。街に出れば気になるのは、両替所の為替価格だったりして・・。ここ最近一番よく目にした灯りは、両替所の赤い電光表示かもしれませんね。今回は気持ちが明るくなるように、モスクワのイルミネーション・ツアーに沢山の写真でご案内したいと思います。

Over the last couple of years, Moscow city boosts up the seasonal events like Maslenitsa(see my old post,) or Christmas. A lot of markets, outdoor arts, live performances appear at the main squres or streets in the citycentre, they are organized by Moscow city corporated with the local companies. Each season has a different theme and plans and we can check them out on the city officila website.  The public communication tools are much more advanced than the ones in Japan, for example the official website is interactive that citizens can uploard their own pictures via instagram, and also the conceptual visual design is attractive enough to draw our attentions on street.
On this Christmas season, the main theme is "Journey to Christmas".  Each squre has a special concept based on Christmas fairy tales and hand out Christmas traveler's passport. A present will be given to those who collect all passport stamps at any points, it's a nice idea for the children. The event map can be downloaded from the offical website.
私の記憶では昨年あたりからでしょうか、春のマースレニッツァ（過去の投稿参照）やクリスマスなど大イベントがある時には街中のメインストリートやスクエアにマーケットが立ち並び、大掛かりな野外アートやライブパフォーマンスを楽しめるようになりました。運営は市と協賛企業によるもので、毎回きちんとしたテーマと企画のもとで展開されています。くわしい内容についてはモスクワ市ＨＰでいち早く告知され、市民は期間中撮影した写真をアップできるなどインテラクティブな試みも行われています。企画のビジュアルイメージ、告知ツールのデザインなどは洒落ていて、このあたりは日本の行政の取組みよりはるかに進んでいるように思います。
さて今回クリスマスのテーマは「Journey to Christmas」。街中のスクエアはクリスマスのおとぎ話にちなんだ催し、そしてChristmas traveler's passport なるものが用意されています。各所でスタンプを集めるとクリスマスギフトがもらえるそうです。子どもが喜びそうですね。市のＨＰから会場地図もダウンロードできます。

At first, let's go for the red squre. Near the entrance, there is the BIG christmas ornament ball! We can go inside the ball and then go to the market in front ot the state historical museum. Wow, it's so shining!

まずは赤の広場のほうへ。入り口手前には大きな大きなオーナメント・ボールが私たちをお出迎え。中をくぐりぬけると、歴史博物館前のマーケットへ。キッラキラでしょう！

Now let's go inside of the red squre, you would be dazzled by the bright illuminations of GUM department store. Inside of the store, they show the super flashy displays as well. Here is nothing about the Ruble shock.
さあそして赤の広場へ。そこには眩しすぎるほどに燦然と輝くグム百貨店の姿が！ディスプレイも、ど派手！為替変動による値上がり前に消費づく市民の姿から、不況の暗さはみじんも感じない。

Beside the GUM, there are the outdoor skaterink and the Christmas market. In my opinion, the market quality and originarity is getting better year by year.  I remember that it used to sell only small numbers of import goods, but now they sell domestic Christmas stuff, it would never dissapoint tourists.
グム百貨店横には屋外スケートリンクとマーケットが設置されています。マーケットの内容はここ数年で格段に良くなったと感じます。数年前は外国から取り寄せたクリスマスグッズがわずかに並んでいるだけでしたが、現在はロシア産のクリスマスグッズが堂々と並び、観光客の期待を裏切りません。
