The second part of design note from Greece.
About 5hours from Athens by highspeed ferry, we arrived in one of beautiful islands of the Aegean sea, Santorini island.

アテネから高速フェリーに乗ること約4時間、私たちはエーゲ海に浮かぶ美しい島、サントリーニに到着しました。
断崖絶壁の切り立った島のてっぺんに、雪のようにきらめく白い家々。
島北端にあるイアの街はとりわけ美しく、その景観は地上の楽園さながら。空と海がつながったかのような青・・・その真中に連なる白い家並み。まるで雲の上を浮遊しているような気分になります。
Along the main street of Oia, there are lots of nice shops, cafes and galleries. They are all sophisticated and colored in blue and white, so this street is a part of beautiful landscape, not like a typical unsightly souvenior streets.
イアのメインストリート沿いには、洗練されたショップやギャラリー、カフェが軒を連ねます。
そのどれもが景観と調和した、青と白。だからこのストリートは単なる土産物街にはならない、美しいランドスケープの一部なのです。
As walking along the street, I noted one remarkable design of the town. That is "Door". Greek while houses have colorful door or gate at the entrance. We can overlook blue sky and sea through the door.....so I named it, "Heaven's door". Each door is supposed to be handpainted by the houseowner and parcially original wooden color appears. It's so lovely.
ストリートを歩きながら、私が気になった街のデザイン。それは扉です。白い家の正面玄関や表門に、とてもカラフルな扉が。その扉の向こうには、青い空や海が広がっている・・・だから私は「天国の扉」と名付けました。
天国の扉の素敵なところは、お家の人のハンドペイントということ。ところどころ木目が見えているのが、なんとも味わい深い。
While we stayed in Santorini island, we met the local photographer featuring these doors. His name is Nikos Rigopoulos. He takes Santorini in monochrome and only remains colors of doors, which impressed me a lot. (You can see his works by this website. http://www.photos-santorini.com/ )We visited his garalley located nearby the sunset view point. From his garalley, we saw that the sky and sea were changing the colors every moment. I thought this amazing view was like a part of his works as well.

The landscape of Santorini island is unique. It is surrounded by a stiff cliff and Greek style white houses line along the ridge, so the island looks like crowned with snow. Especially Oia town, which is located in northern edge, has a wonderful view like a heaven on the earth. Blue sky and sea, and pretty white houses stand between them.
