Hi, it's already the middle of August! Time flies. I returned back from nice summer vacation in Greece.
I just want to note some impressive elements of Greek design.
気がつけば8月も半ば、みなさん夏を楽しまれていますか？
しばらくモスクワを離れ、ギリシャ旅行に出かけていました。印象に残った街のデザイン、残しておきたいと思います。
At first, Athens. Honestly I didn't know about Greece very well apart from ancient heritage.
This time I walked around the city and found the attractive place called Plaka, which is the oldest part of Athens. If you get the top of Acropolis(the historical site of Partheon), you will see lots of tiny buildings with pretty red roofs. That's Plaka.
まずはアテネ。アテネといえば古代遺跡・・くらいの予備知識しかなかった私。
街の魅力はパルテノン神殿から見える、この赤茶色の屋根の下に待っていますよ。
アテネの下町、プラカ地区です。
Architecture
Most of old architectures in Plaka were buit in Neo-Classicism style, which was the revival of ancient Greek or Roman style and very popular in the late of 18C all around Europe. Many of Russian pre-revolutionary architectres have same style, so I found some similarity between Athens and Moscow. Athens's originality is seen on the roof, the red tile. I love the color contrast of blue sky and red roof. This red tile is designed like a fuman face. I suppose it comes from the ancient design, because I saw the similar one in Acropolis museum.
Tiny decorative balcony is another attraction for pedestrians who pass by streets.

プラカ地区に残る建築様式の多くは、新古典主義（ネオクラシシズム）。18世紀後半にヨーロッパ全土で流行した古代ギリシャ・ローマの建築のリヴァイバルです。それはモスクワに残る革命前の建造物と同じ様式なので、どことなく似ていますね。ちょっと異なるのは、この赤瓦。アテネの真っ青な空によく映えます。瓦のデザインは一様に、顔のついたもの。アクロポリス博物館にも展示されていたので、古代から伝承されているものと思われます。
そしてかわいらしい小さなバルコニーのデザインも、通りかかる人を楽しませてくれます。
Market
Athen is truly HOT, not only from sunshine, also from the energy of market. It is absolutely fun to see each stall's display, because it is dynamic and colorful! The owner suddenly appeared behind piles of goods and say 'hello' with friendly smile. It caught my heart to stay there for a while.

アテネの夏の暑さは太陽だけじゃない、無数のマーケットがにぎわうエネルギー。その陳列はカラフルかつダイナミック！山と積まれた品物のかげから、ちらりと覗く人懐こい笑顔に、思わず足を止めてしまいます。
Cafe and Taverna
In Athens, we have a lot of choices to have a break at cafe. Normaly cafe has big sunscreens or greens which protect us from too strong sunshine. Each table is placed close to next one, so chatting with next person happens easily. Greek cafe is a great place to make friends as well. Little olive trees are often placed on the table, people have a peaceful time with it.

歩きつかれたらカフェで休憩。大きな日よけと覆いかぶさるくらいのグリーンが、灼熱の太陽から身を守ってくれます。小さなテーブルと椅子。お隣さんと仲良くなれる距離感がいいですね。ギリシャは世界大3位のオリーブ生産国。さりげなく置かれた鉢植えにも心癒されます。
Lastly, symbolic secenery from The new Acropolis museum.
It is quite new, opened in 2009. I was impressed with the glass facade reflecting old building and historic remains.
I wish that Greece get through the economical crisis and this glass facade will reflect brigher future as well.
さいごに、印象的な光景。2009年にリニューアルオープンしたアクロポリス博物館です。
ガラスファサードに映る古い建物と遺跡、新旧のコントラストが心に残りました。
経済危機を脱し、輝かしい未来も映るようになればいいなぁと。。。
