Since I am a member of Museum/Archtecture visit group, I have great oppotunities to see unique places in Moscow.
This week I visited "Hotel Sovietsky".....sounds very Soviet. Indeed, I felt like being in USSR time.
It is located on the busiest street, Lenigradsky near my house. So actually I have been curious, why is it named Sovietsky? How does it look inside? Luckily I could find it out.
私の日々の活動として、ミュージアムや建築を巡るグループに参加しています。一人では見つけにくいモスクワの”通”な名所にも行けちゃうのは、このグループのおかげです。今週は「ホテル ソヴィエツキー」に行ってきました。このホテルは、私の住まい近くのレニングラードスキー大通り（ものすごく通行量の多い通り）に面しており、以前から気になっていました。ソヴィエツキーというからには、ソヴィエトって感じのホテルなのでしょうか？どんな内装なのでしょうか？ じっさい、ソ連時代にタイムスリップした気分になる所でした。
This building was originally built in 1910 as a restaurant. You might think it looks too much space for a restaurant, but it worked. The name of the restaurant is "Yar" featuring the big hall with a special show. It is still exsisting.
After the revolution in 1917, once "Yar" was closed and the building was used for apartments, movie theater, hospital, school and so on. In Stalin era around 1950, it was renovated and added the new part for managing the hotel.
Therefore, in this building we can see two types of architecture, pre-revolutionary and Stalin.
The hotel part is decorated in Stalin style, of course with the symbol of Soviet, (red) stars.
建物はもともと1910年に、レストランとして建てられました。レストランの名前は「Yar（ヤール）」、ショウを楽しみながら食事できる大きなホールあるのが特徴で、今も営業しています。1917年のロシア革命の後、いったん「Yar」レストランは閉じられ、建物は貸しアパートや映画館としても使われたそうです。1950年頃のスターリン時代、建物は改築されてホテルの部分が追加されました。なので、このビルの内部では、革命前1910年ごろの建築と、スターリン時代1950年代の建築が共存しているのです。ホテルの部分はスターリン時代なので、ソビエトのシンボルである星がたくさん施されています。
The restaurant parcially remains the original appearance of 1910. Especially the big dome with chanderier made in 1912 is very impressive. Meanwhile, we can see Stalin style in the banquet room. In 1952-1989, the restaurant was renamed "Sovietsky",because it was considered an official goverment restaurant.
レストランは、1910年の姿を残している部分もあります。ホール天井の大きなドームと1912年に作られたシャンデリアが特に印象的です。一方、バンケットルームはスターリン時代のもの。ちなみにこのレストランは、ソ連時代「ソヴィエツキー」と改名されており、政府御用達となっていたそうです。
Also this building has an unsual place, the first and only one professional gypsy theater "Romen" since 1931. Hotel Soviestsky is not only the time travel place to USSR, it has attractive entertainment options as well.
そしてこのビルには、とっても珍しい場所があるんです。世界初、世界でひとつのプロフェッショナルなジプシー劇場「ロメン」です。 ホテル ソヴィエツキーは、ソ連にタイムスリップした気分にしてくれるだけじゃなく、エンターテイメントも豊富な穴場かも・・・。
On excursion, we also learned the history around the hotel (around my area). In an old picture, we found that double deckers were running on Leningradsky street. The guide told us it appeared only for 3years in 1930s, now trolley buses took over that route. On the way home, on this big street, I happened to see the brand new parking for BICYCLES!!! (you know, Moscow is one of the worst traffic jam cities) It is telling me the times change..... However, Sobietsky hotel exsits as it was in 20C.
今日の見学では、ホテル周辺(私が住んでいるあたり）の歴史も学びました。古い写真の中では、なんとレニングラードスキー大通りに2階建てバスが走っているではありませんか！1930年代に3年間だけ走っていたそうで、今はトロリーバスが走っているルートです。帰り道、この大通りで偶然、真新しい自転車駐車スペースを発見しました！（モスクワはいまや世界一の大渋滞都市といわれてるんですよ。）時代は変わっていきますね、でもホテル ソヴィエツキーは20世紀の雰囲気を残してたたずんでいます。
